A MAN has been rushed to hospital after being injured when a cherry-picker fell on a naval ship docked at Henderson, in Perth’s far southern suburbs.

Emergency services personnel were called to the Australian Marine Complex in Quill Way just after 10am amid reports a man was trapped under the cherry-picker aboard the Royal Australian Navy ship, HMAS Warramunga.

The man has suffered a leg injury and has been taken to Fremantle Hospital for treatment.

It is believed the ship had been undergoing maintenance or refurbishment at the Tenix Defence Pty Ltd site, but it is not clear how the accident happened.

An inquiry will be conducted by Comcare, the Commonwealth agency that investigates workplace accidents, which manages incidents that happen on federally controlled land.

Comment has been sought from Comcare.
